Professionally Dr Shourjendra Datta is a very well-known Doctor in Kolkata, India but by passion he is an extremely accomplished and internationally renowned photographer, having won many accolades from all over the World.
He has won over 1650+ Gold, silver and bronze medals along with innumerable Honorable Mention Ribbons in salon photography from over 107 countries till date.
He had also won Honorable Mention in the prestigious SIPA (Siena International Photography Award, Siena, Italy) in Street Photography section in 2020 and was invited to Siena for the gala award ceremony.
In the same year 2020, he was a Bronze Winner in the MIFA (Moscow International Photography Awards, Moscow) and Honorable Mention Winner in IPA (International Photography Awards). Again in 2020, he was a Silver Winner in TIFA (Tokyo International Photography Awards, Tokyo). He has been a HIPA (Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Photography Awards) finalists on 5 consecutive years from 2020 to 2025.
In 2022 he won an Honorable Mention from The International Photographic Salon of Japan, The Asahi Shimbun, where 5015 entries were submitted from 72 countries and only 55 photos were chosen for any award.
Again in 2022, he won a Commended award in Siena Drone Photo Award, Siena, Italy in the People section
He was the top Grand Prix Winner in the 2022 edition of PhotoArtMedica, a photography contest held in Poland every year, meant only for doctors who are photographers. In that year, among 125 participants from 16 countries and 929 photographs, he won the most coveted Grand Prix Trophy, the hand crafted and beautiful Master Mariusz Chrzastek Statuette along with medals, certificates a WACOM INTUOS Creative Pen and Tablet.
Additionally, in the year 2022 his image won the Best Image Award in Pictorial Photography in the National level competition on the occasion of 130th World Photography Day celebrations, held by India International Photographic Council (IIPC) and Andhra Pradesh State Creativity & Culture Commission, Govt of AP, Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh
He was also invited as an Honourable guest to attend the Annual Paris Photo Prize Exhibition at Espace Beaurepaire, Paris in November, 2022
In the year 2023, he was invited as a Guest photographer by The Alvas Education Trust, for the mega Bharat Scouts and Guides Jamboree with 50,000 students of SAARC countries participating along with India at Moodbidri, Karnataka
In 2024, his photograph won him a Prize, Cash Award and NHRC Certificate, on the theme ‘Environmental Hazards impacting life on planet Earth’, in the National level Photography Competition, NHRC, Government of India
He has been holder of 30 International photography distinctions including the coveted EFIAP/Silver from The International Federation of Photographic Art, Luxembourg and EPSA from The Photographic Society of America Worldwide, USA. He has also been a recipient of multiple Honorary photographic distinctions from several countries like Romania, USA, France, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus along with many from India
He is also a Life Member of Federation of Indian Photography (FIP) and an Honorary distinction holder from the Wildlife Photography Association of India (WPAI)
On two consecutive years,2025 and 2026 his works were selected for ‘Banaras Chronicles – Through the 100 Masters Lens’ – an exclusive, by invitation only exhibition of photography on Varanasi by select 100 photographers from around the World.
His photography works have been published both in National and International Print media like Royal Photographic Society, Benelux Chapter magazine, National Geographic, Smart Photography magazine and various other local publications.
Once one of his photo was displayed on the Home page of the famous Royal Photographic Society, Great Britain
His love for teaching and sharing his astute photography skills helps him in at times organizing photo trips to places like Varanasi, Pushkar, Jaisalmer among other places, and photo outings in and around Kolkata and other places in West Bengal and Odisha, and those photo trips and outings are always fully booked by enthusiastic photographers who loves his lucid teaching and photo mentoring
He has also been a jury for more than sixty-five National and International photography competitions and was an invited jury for the Sarawak Photo-Art Society, Malaysia for the SPAS Photo Performance Award in 2019.In 2025, he along with same famous names in International Photography founded the Excellence Photographer Academy – an independent talent development & recognition platform, based in Malaysia.
Very recently, he has been awarded the PFIAP distinction by the parent body of international Photography, Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP). This is a newly instituted portfolio distinction, awarded for a curated body of work. He is among the very first photographers internationally to receive this recognition for his images on Holi in Braj.
He feels the same enthusiasm and passion with a camera in hand, as much as when he is busy with his profession looking after his patients.
